Terrie James-Taylor

Meet Terrie… The Founder of Divine Decisions:
A compassionate leader with over 30 years of experience in end-of-life care, community outreach, and education. Her work is rooted in love, service, and a deep commitment to empowering others through life’s most sacred transitions.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Terrie’s journey of care and service began early and continues to touch lives across generations and communities. After relocating to Denver, Colorado, she found her passion in end-of-life care in 1990 at Hospice of Metro Denver (now Denver Hospice), where she spent 13 meaningful years. Her roles included Office Manager and later, educator and outreach specialist, where she helped raise awareness about end-of-life care in the African American community. Terrie also began serving as a direct care volunteer, visiting patients in their homes and nursing facilities—work that brought her both purpose and peace.

In 2007, she returned to the D.C. metropolitan area and continued her service through roles at Montgomery Hospice and Prince Georges Hospice, dedicating more than 21 years to walking alongside individuals and families during some of life’s most tender moments. With over 30 years of experience in end-of-life care, Terrie has held many roles, including Community Outreach Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Facilities Manager, and most recently, Certified End-of-Life Doula—a role that beautifully blends her professional skill with her nurturing spirit.

Today, Terrie serves as a Senior Certified Advance Care Planning Facilitator with Heart Tones™, working alongside Dr. Gloria Thomas Anderson, to provide compassionate and culturally responsive ACP education across the country. She also holds the position of Board Secretary for Heart Tones™ and is an active member and board member of the Prince Georges Senior Provider Network.

Terrie is deeply committed to serving seniors and empowering African American communities to engage in meaningful conversations about care, legacy, and health decisions. As a pastor’s daughter, she sees her work in end-of-life care as a sacred calling and one that allows her to support others in their most vulnerable moments. She also remains active in her church, serving as an Usher and a member of the Culinary Ministry.

She enjoys running, reading, crocheting, gardening, and spending quality time with her beloved family and friends. Terrie is happily married to her husband, Otis Taylor, and is a proud mother to her daughter Tamera and son-in-law Phillip Rose.
